Greencastle Youth Club
History
The youth club has been in existence since 1977 in Greencastle, County Donegal which is a rural area. It gives the community a focal point for parents and children to meet on a Monday and Thursday nights .It provides a chance for the children to exercise and enhance their social skills within peer groups and between themselves and the adults as well as taking part in sport. The local primary school which most of the children attend is in a rural situation and has insufficient funding for extra curricular activities. It is by way of the youth club that the children getto branch out and have the opportunity to experience different sports, cultural, social and recreational activates. The youth club benefits girls and boys in the community aged 7-16 years of age, from any social and ethnic background. At present the club meets twice weekly.Parents of children in the club make up the large group of voluntary supervisors and leaders.
